Ok class, as I mentioned in the beginning this semester, we will be taking a field trip to the local marina, and that field trip will take place next week. Um, before we go, there are few things I’d like to point out to you. Particularly, I’d like to talk about barnacle.

4 h& Y; o a& W. bAs we’ve disscused, a barnacle is a shellfish, usually small, less than an inch leg(length). It’s relay(related) to lobsters, shimps and crabs. However, I like(unlike) those other shellfishes. Barnacles are considered fallen(silent??) organisms. That is they are potentially damaging nuisance. You know, because they attach themselves to wood piers, rocks and ship bottoms as we will see next week in marina. And they even attache themselves to other living creatures such as turtles and whales. Now barnacles use very powerful cement. It’s a self-made cenment to attach themselves. In fact, it’s one of a most powerful glues known. Paleontologist says even disscuvered fossils from 150 million years ago that have barnacles still attach. So as you can see, It’s as very very powerful and long lasting cement.

People in Chile, Brazile, Spain and Italy harvest[收获] and eat the clam like Goose Barnacle. Um, however there is one type barnacle found here in the US on west coast. That(They) reache the weight of 3ponds and actually grow up to 5 inches tall. It takes a lot at lobsters and clams.8 l0 {8 `) o4 |1 m6 A, D1 N, N
