Do you agree or disagree: People can learn more from watching television than reading books.
Nowadays, television becomes more and more important in people's lives. It is widely accepted that television is an significant tool for people to acquire knowledge. So there is a fierce discusion about whether television is more helpful for people to learn than books. As far as I concerned, television plays a crucial role in this knowledge exploding era, but books are also important.
There are some advantages of the knowledge that acquired form television. television can provide not only figures but also sounds for people to learn the knowledge it presents, which is much helpful because many people tend to be easy to memorize the content with figures and sounds. For example, I once was tired of reading books about geography and history because of the abstract content which is hard to understand. But I was suddenly excited when I watched the programme "Discovery", which was a perfect to learn knowledge about history and geography.
On the other hand, there are some advantages about the knowledge in books that could never be replaced by television programmes. Books present a large amount of knowledge while television programmes contain little. Take the programme "Discovery" for example again, The knowledge contained in the programme of course makes me delighted, but it costs too much time for the programme producers to produce such programme for people. So the amount of the knowledge in the programme could be much smaller than that in books although there are many episocs of it. If I want to learn the knowledge about history or geography systematically, It is a good idea for me to read books instead of just watching television.
As discussed above, television is an important tool for us to acquire konwledge, which makes the process of learning interesting. But books are also important for people to learn, because there are various kinds of information contained in books. It is hard for people to say which is more important. If we want to learn well, we should make full use of television and books.
