% D9 u8 X. E: S K) h% O+ tSo how you like living in the3 h' ~# [8 K! [ X
renovated (翻新) dorm?
9 `+ H5 X7 A1 G' h' h' h+ y# cThere aren’t much different than the old dorm, just some new pane (玻璃窗) and windows.; m, z, o, y9 i1 m- r
The windows are nice so they1 ?7 z* d1 R8 o* l, G' t
shut off(隔绝)the noise really well.2 w# G8 R: n7 p% [+ m) Z) f
The street’s just outside, but I can barely hear the traffic.
0 V/ q v4 f& W/ n! LUm, they must be good windows; I bet (打赌) they must have double panes and glass, they shut off a lot of noise that the single pane wouldn’t stop.
' f" v v4 j- SYeah, I wish I had something just the factor between me and my neighbor’s room. Sometimes he turns up the music so loud that I have trouble getting into sleep. Anyway I guess I’m better off than the people who’ll be moving into the new dorms. Did you see how thin the walls are that they putting up between those' }$ E9 p) f: P0 G5 X3 z5 h/ p2 q
room.
: K) ?$ j+ c% d9 B5 M1 ?- H* Q! Z' O) l% xI haven’t seen them but I did read something about them in the campus newspaper. They are supposed to be better than thick concrete wall(水泥墙) you’ve got here. : N, W7 g, G* a+ \4 b6 H4 e
Better, how?' J# Q- q% M4 q4 `0 S
Well, what they doing is separating each room with 2 thin layer of plasterboards (石膏灰泥板) and each one is nailed(钉子)to a different frame(框). That way they vibrate; |3 U% s5 i% [, r4 t
independently.$ I2 m/ ]7 E" o6 w' L# c/ d
Oh, I see. so the sound from one room doesn’t just vibrate (晃动)the wall and go directly3 \% F" f4 m4 M2 B/ c: p* o. {6 y
into next room. There is a gap between 2 layers of wall.3 u b7 N& M: ~
That’s right.6 v4 w( ^9 p! E% @
Well, I’m still stuck with this neighbor and I am not sure what to do.
3 x: y) s3 U/ J: X/ i7 jYou know heavy bear wall doesn’t help. You should hang something up like fur rages or some decorated cross. That would act like a kind of a second wall and absorb some sound. I got some extras you can, if you like.
3 Q* X; @- t0 `/ |! ]I’d appreciate it, anything to get a good night sleep.
