Our lives are better than our grandparents' lives when they were young.
True is the fact that people are always seeking lives that are more meaningful and less stressful. They see this as the basic need for human beings to look for the betterment of the race. However, expectedly or unexpectedly, there merges some counteractive points which make the new generation, in some aspects, suffer more from their lives’ courses than the older generation. At least, our lives are not of superiority over our parents’ lives in that we feel more stress and have too many worries.
Admittedly, with the advance of new technology, the new generation today, in an informational age, is able to enjoy the conveniences brought by modern vehicles, computers as well as telecommunication tools. However, no matter one is committed in any kind of religion or thought system, he or she will certainly say that outside conveniences have little to do with inside peacefulness and betterment. Cold machines and metal pieces do not give people tenderness; flowing electronic waves do cause headaches.
Experiencing a strong will to feed the families, hundreds and thousands of young men compete harshly in the job markets, leaving little time for them to stay at home and talk to the family. Even a university diploma cannot guarantee a satisfiable job. Stress results in diseases both physically and mentally but some still stay in job positions where they think they might be able to make more money and live “better” lives. Unchanged is the responsibility for family members, but the harshness and the bitterness in the professional life one feels can be much more aggrandized.
Unfortunately, stress in work is not the only factor that has been added to our generation. With the One Child Policy in China, family members are largely reduced with no siblings for the child. Therefore, children experience a tremendous amount of loneliness and sometimes even suffer from psychological abnormities. Extended families no longer live together; the closeness and warmness of a big family is replaced by suspiciousness and jealousies. The relationship between people has become more and more ignorant and fragile.
Human beings have the intelligence to handle advanced technology but have failed to examine the need for themselves to be really happy and well-off. Is it something inescapable as a result of the informational age or is it an ignorance humans have paid to their lives?
