Is it better to work for a large company than for a small one?
When I was a little child, I was always attracted by those career-oriented successful females who dress formally and behave properly. My impression was that those people went into and out of tall buildings, enjoyed large individual offices and worked on projects that had something to do with the whole country. However, it was not until I grew older did I realize that not all companies are that large. In fact, most of them are small ones. Despite the many disadvantages my family and friends present to me, I am drawn by those small companies for better and worse.
Admittedly, one’s devotion in a small company may possibly prevent him/her from getting approaches to advanced technology and established company cultures. What is more, one can almost hardly realize the dream of being in as a high status in the society as those successful ones in large companies do. But undeniable is the fact that in small companies, one can have more freedom and opportunities of promotion.
Small companies bolds the advantage of having an atmosphere that is both harmonious and accepting. Because all but any small company is in a state of developing, there is a need for creativity and imagination to differ the company from other ones. Young people are especially welcomed in a place where they can exercise their new ideas and new thoughts. By designing a community program for children to do community services, a small company fulfills what a big company cannot possibly think of due to concerns of investment-profit ratio or risk index. There is a lot more life and energy in small companies because of the freedom that sparks imagination in the workers’ minds.
Not only are small companies surrounded by the free atmosphere, but they also are more encouraging by giving more promotion opportunities to the employees. Human resources are effectively distributed in small companies to suit the companies’ need for largest revenue. Equally able in their jobs, a big company employee will find him/herself face greater challenges to be promoted than does a small company employee. This is, of course, not because s/he is not devoted, but because a harsher and fiercer competition in large companies. A guarantee for easier promotion can furthermore add to the harmonious and lively energy in small companies, accelerating its growth.
In fact, whether a person wants to be in a small or big company depends on his/her personality and his/her interpretation of success and accomplishment. For me, small companies always are heartfelt choices I would make for my future career.
