Stonehenge(巨石阵)——history class0 H. D7 ]$ p7 Q
Moving on to another ancient discovery, let’s discuss magnificence and mystery of stonehenge. Three kilometers west of a town called Amesbury stands a large, tell stone ruin(废墟)
; X4 ]2 A: E1 wknown as stonehenge. This unique monument(
纪念碑) has stood for over 5000 years in an open dawnland of salisbury plain in Southern England. Stonehenge is not a single structure, but consists of a serices of earth, wood and stone structures that were revised and re-modeled over 1000 of years. How were the stones moved into place. No one knows exactly. But it is definite(清楚的)that it take a lot of muscle(肌肉) power and numerous men to move this heavy stones in place. The next lagical question might be why was stonehenge build. Well to answer that question, we can look at the finding of an 18 century’s british scholar named william stukelay who noticed that houreshoe of great stones and houreshoe of 19 small stones called bluestons opened up the direction(方向) of a midsummer sunrise. He concluded(相信) that there stones were placed not accidentally. But dileberately position and planned so that on a midsummer’s morning the sun" ?3 X; M+ E( ]
rose directly over the heel stone and first rays shone into the centre of the monument bewteen they open arm of the horseshoe arrangement. This discovery has had tremendous(
极大) impact on how stonehenge has been interpreted(说明). Both stukely in the 18th century and Sir J. Norman Lockyer, a british astronomer and scientist, in the 20th century. Believed that this alignment(排成直线)implied a ritualistic(仪式) connection with sun worship. There conclusions led to believe that stonehenge was built as a temple to the sun. nowadays, an astronomer named……disagree with…………. Conclusions and instead argue that stonehenge it’s not simply aligned with solar and lunar astronomical events. But can be used to predict other events such eclipes. In a nutshell(简单地说), he believe that stonehenge was not built as a temple, instead it was built at an astronomical calculator(计算)) K2 `% B+ g# V/ N$ X$ S

At the same time, the downstate regions economic growth hinges(依靠) on wall street. And many New Yorkers living in city’s suburbs are still struggling(挣扎). Looking at government data, we can see that although Ner York enjoys many resourse(资源), there resourse do not seem to benifit the state by means of pay or living conditions(状态) for New York workers daring economic good or bad times in Amarica. Using the same data, we can conclude that in order for all New Yorkers to benefit form economy, we cannot rely(指望) just on growth in state we need to analyze growth and find out how it affects not only the workers but also there family across the entire(整个) state. Clearly, the state must take some responsibility and step in(干预) and help familys that are not benefit from growing economy.3 i5 O- o$ V; T4 j/ a1 M- E6 d; T* @

It seems like onlyyesterday that I was setting where you are. Justfinishing my frist year of midecal school and wondering if I’d ever get a change to used all my new knowlegde on a real live patient. Well, I have good news for you. You don’thave to wait until your third of fourth year      medical school to get some handed-onexperience. The dean(校长) has invited(邀请) me here to tell you about theuniversity’s rural opportunity(机会) program. If you enroll in this program. You can have the opportunity this summer. after your firstyear of midecal school. To spent form 4 to 6 weeks, observingand assisting a real physician like me, in thesmall rural community, you won’t to have competeto with other student for time and attention. And you can see what life as a country doctor is really like. The program was designed to encourage(鼓励) medical studentlike yourselves to consider carrers in rural communities that are still understaffed. It’s seems that medicalstudent afraid to go into rural family practice(实践) for two reasons. First, they don’t know much about it and secondspecially in the city usually make more money. But on they up-side, in rural practice, doctors can really get to know their there patiens, and be respected menber of community(社区).- q2 {1 O( f+ _- q0 Z$ n
I participated(参与) in the program when it first started and spent sixweeks in the small urual Town.let’s me tell you.it was really great. I got to work with real patiens. I watchedthe brith of a  child, assisted an accidentvictim, and had lots of really practical(实际的) hands-onexpericent all in one summer. And to my surprise, I found the country life hada lot to offer(提供) that city life doesn’t. no pullution ortraffic jams, for instance

In the few minutesthat remain of today’s class I’d like todiscuss next schedule with you. Because I’m presentinga paper at a conference(会议) in Detroit onThursday. I won’t be here for either Wednesday’s or Friday’s class. I will, however, be here for Monday’s. Next Friday, a week from today, is the midterm exam. Making the halfway point semester. Perfessorandrew has agreed to administer(管理) in the exam. In place of the usual Wednesday class. I’ve arranged(布置) an optional(选修) review(再检查)session. Since it is optional, attendance(出席到场) will not betaken. However, attending(负责实习) the class would be good idea for thoseworried about midterm. So remenber, optional class next Wednesday. Midtern,Friday.
