We’re especially interested in recruiting(未经训练的) people to fillopening for flight attendants(空中服务人员).first of all, to work as a flightattendants with us, you must be accepted into our trainingprogram. And with so many people applying, it’snot easy to be selected, From the thousands of applications(申请) we receive annually, we choose fewer than thousand people for training,so we require experience serving the public. Andit also helps if you’ve earned(赢得) some college credits. Also not everybody who gets accepted into the trainingprogram make it through. The course meets sixdays a week for five weeks. The training includes extensive(广阔的) classroom work in such subjects as first aid and passenger psychology as well as practicaltraining in flight procedures and meal survice. A lot of very greduates say that our flight attendans develop the skills of anurse, a headwaiter, and a public relations of executive(经营).4 A! }! N# y* S! C, X- u
 But as a flight attentantmyself I can say the flight all of hard work is worthit. Of course I get to travel throughoutthe country and they airlain pays all of myexpenses while I’m awayfrom my base station. And what I like bestof all that I’ve meetfriends with people from all over the country.

I need to makesure you understand how to get housing for next year, when you entered as first years student this year. the school assigned you to a dormand roommate, bur next year as returningstudent. You’ll choose both your roommate and your dorm.But whether or not you actually get to live inyour first choise, depends(确认) on what number you or you roomate draws(抽) lottery system. The system gives the student by priorityto the students who have been here longest. Fourth-yearsstudent get to first block of numbers, third-years get second block and second-yearslike you’ll beget third. The lower of the number you draw, the sooner you choose. NO1 gets the firstchoise, NO2 gets the second choise and so on. * _! f( T* e- E" [; ]4 _5 Q, ?
You can use either your won oryou intended(原来) roomate number tomake your room choise. If you roommate for next year hasbeen at the school longer than you have, They’ll be in a better blockof numbers, and so neither number than any second student. But most of you will probably be rooming with othersecond-years students and so need of you mayhave a great of number, you may not get into yourfirst or even second chiose, of course, if you make plan to live off campus, you don’t need toentere the lottery at all.9 g* `) s, A" B# R+ d5 r
Dorm space will be especially tight(紧张) this year becausethe dorms on North Campus will be closed for renovations(修复), this means thatthose of you who draw the worst numbers won’tbe able to get the housing at all, in that case, house office will helpyou to find off-cumpus housing.

Before we start our first lab, I’d like to tell you a little bit about theworkbooks we’ll beusing. The first thing I’d like to point out is thatthe workbook contains(include) is a very largeamount of material(材料原料) far more than you could ever handle in(处理) a single semester(term).What you’re supposed do is choose the experiments and activities that you want todo within(超过) a certain framework(框架) of course. Part of my job is to help you make your choices.

Inthe activities section you’ll find suggestion(建议) for projects(计划) you can do on yourown time.  You’ll see there are usually nodetailed instruction for the activities.
