157. Some students like classes where teachers lecture (do all of the talking) in class. Other students prefer classes where the students do some of the talking. Which type of class do you prefer? Give specific reasons and details to support your choice.
Some people hold the opinion that students should be permitted to engage in the discussion with teacher during the class. However, others prefer to take classes where teachers lecture all the time. I would like to choose the latter one, if personal preference is considered one of the standards.
But why I would rather listen to the teacher than discuss with each other? There are numerous reasons, and I will explain some of the most important ones here.
First of all, it is the teacher who gains the abundant knowledge and takes the responsibility to pass them on to the students. If there must leave some time to students to discuss, the teacher would probably can’t complete his/her plan. Consequently, the teacher could not introduce all he/she knows to us, or if can, that would be simple and without any deep analysis. As a result, the students would become the final victims. Because we go to school to understand the knowledge but not to just collect them. That’s one of the reasons of my choice.
Furthermore, we needn’t to interrupt the lecture, because we have plenty of office time. Besides, it is also trouble for other students who is focusing on the point of the class and noting the key words. Because of one’s interrupt, their concentration will just be disturbed and then difficult to rebuild again. It will be possible to threaten their performance in future exams. What’s even worse that, it will cause conflicts among the students. So, that’s also why I appreciate the latter one.
However, the information I collected last few years leads me to believe that most of the discussions between students are useless and just waste of time. At the beginning, commonly, they do concentrate their attention on the problem. Gradually, the students always tend to chat or joke with each other. To think about that the class costs tremendous money from the painstaking works of our parents. And the class is also the place used for learning. Unfortunately, it is frequently wasted by boring discussion. Then, how to realize the value of the money and what can we gain? Nothing! What’s a pity!
From what has been discussed above, I convinced that it’s a wise decision to take such classes, where the teacher does lectures.
